Good Times - Just A "Regular" Day in Southern California

Of course when we visit California we like to create some exciting memories by going to places like Sea World and Legoland - but what really makes our time special is being able to do 'everyday' things with the people we love.

Day 6 - Monday, July 13 was one of those days where we just went along with others and experienced a bit of their 'regular'. My mom's 'regular' summer day starts around 4:30 or 5:00am - she goes to work and the gym by the time we finally wake up, then goes back again around 12:30 and is home by 2pm. Dad leaves the house around 6am, which means he's flexible in the afternoon by 2pm. This is always fun for us as we get to sleep/rest/lounge and they get to join us for most of the day - usually at the pool!

Mom often meets up with her high school friend Betty Cox once a month, so we went along for a quick lunch at Wendy's. As always, it was great to see her, but it would've been a nicer visit if it hadn't started raining. Now rain is 'normal' for us in Wellington, but it's not common in California, especially in the summer! The only reason why it bothered me was that I had borrowed a bike so I needed to make sure it was tucked away in the garage.

From there it was time to drop mom off at work, so we caught up with her workmates then headed over to Grandpa and Grandma's house for a brief visit which included some flowers and NZ Jazz apples. We spent about an hour and half there - the kids eating everything they could get their teeth into: pickles, apples, lollipops, chips - then it was time to head home for the next leg of our day.

Trevor and Travis are competitively swimming this summer, so Matt and Tori are spending lots of time at the pool... lots and lots of time at the pool! On this evening, we went over to Estancia High School to watch. Mom packed up a picnic dinner and some activities for the kids to keep them occupied in the in-between times. Who needs activities when you've got Uncle Matt to wrestle with?
And Uncle Matt ran a fitness programme for Hunter too - so there were a few push-ups done poolside!

 Pre-race smiles from Trav...

and there's probably a smile there as he came in 2nd!

Amber came to pick me up at 4:30 after work and we headed over to SoCo for a Girl's Night Dinner at Greenleaf. Last time I was home, we went to a Greenleaf restaurant so it's kind of a new tradition.

There were ten of us total over the course of the evening... it was really cool to see old friends and for them to see each other. Anissia and I went to high school together over 25 years ago! We've known Denise and her family since junior high. Leilen and I spent our Sunday nights together through a few high school years; Robyn has provided laughs and excitement for over 20 years as well!

 I've known Amy since I was 12!
Amber, Kimberly and Nikki spent lots of later high school/early college days together.

What a blessing to hear how God is at work in each of these beautiful women's lives! And a special thanks to Amber for organising our reunion!

Nikki and I hung out with Tawyna and Denise til about 10pm!!! It was a very full day of re-connection.
