Friends, Fire, Fun...

We got a spur of the moment invite to the Aotea Firework Fiesta so we decided to jump on it. This was the first year neither of the kids cried during the fireworks... HA! It was also the first non-windy, non-rainy, clear 5th of November anybody could remember in a very long time (which probably helped in the no tears arena - at least no tears from me).

The goods were spread out on the table for general consumption (we've got some incredibly generous friends)... so everyone just tucked in and went for it!!!

Annette had the brilliant idea to bring a candle to be used for lighting sparklers and the kid-friendly stuff so it was in a safe place where kids could reach (with parental supervision, of course!).
There were a few tense moments - but generally speaking Helena was totally into the whole firecracker thing (plus there were heaps of snacks laid out to be consumed with the sparklers, etc... it was a BIG night!).
See, parental supervision...

This is one of a series of shots of Mika 'sharing' the fruit bursts with the other kids! Not sure if that's one or two or more in her mouth at this moment!

Liberty wasn't totally convinced that this was a fun event... but once she got a fruit burst or two in her mouth, I'm pretty sure everything was fine.

Tony & Levi were quite serious and strategic about setting up a major explosion... not quite the grand finale (I think that was Andy Pearson's job) but a big enough part that Andrew Simkin was there to supervise.

I do find the whole Guy Fawkes celebration a bit silly here in NZ, but hey "while in Rome"... eh!!! Besides, it was a fun night outside with friends making memories of smokey proportions!
