What a beautiful place - we loved Cooks Beach, Oyster Bach and the whole Coromandel experience... but alas, it was soon time to move on. Here are a few randoms before we hit the road.
Tractors near the beach are not common where we come from... but strangely, I wasn't too taken aback here!
We decided to break out the ole badminton set and even bought new shuttlecocks! This provided a bit of exercise after dinner a few times and mostly a few laughs.
Helena likes to make up her own games... at least she's safe. This reminds me though that when we visited California last time she and Hunter found buckets and put them on their heads while riding a bike... how hilarious!
Dad and Tony expertly packed up the trailer with all the gear... this time it was a bit more evenly dispersed (not that I would've noticed - Tony did all of the driving!).
We played lots of cribbage and Mexican Train over these six nights (oh wait, Tony and I went on a date one night and skipped the cribbage, but certainly mom and dad didn't ).
And yes, as we checked out, we got one last family photo... what a wonderful week!!! But now... time to move on!!!
We stopped in Tairua for a glimpse of the amazing views (cloud cover blocked some of the beauty) but we then hit the toilets, coffee shop and petrol station (we'd only travelled for 30 minutes by this stage).
We drove through some beautiful forest regions between Coromandel and Turangi. Dad and Mom also appreciated these views.
As we were on the road, we realised we were passing through Tokoroa and called in on Auntie Nancy and Uncle Graham. Good thing we stopped when we did - they are shifting to their Hamilton home so this was probably the last time we'd see them here. It was fun to introduce them to my parents and acquire a few jars of Uncle Graham's jams...
The drive was fairly straight-forward... until Tony pulled off for a random stop at the Huka Falls!!!
But that's a famous spot and a great stretch - too bad the toilets were closed!
Once we finally got into Turangi, we met up with Dad and Lynne and Dave and Bev... it was dinner time and we were just not ready to cook anything so we feasted on a lovely Chinese dinner from a restaurant that doubled as the takeaway shop. The service was slow but oh my - the food was delicious and the company - well... that was the best part! As I looked around the rounded table I realised that all three of these special couples had been with us in Taiwan and would've had a similar meal with us there! How fun to have them altogether!!! This is going to be a great three nights!
