So what do you get your 6 year old son who already has plenty of toys, school supplies, clothes, etc?!? This year - we've given him an "opportunity" - we've planted a garden together as his birthday present!
We went to the garden shop to pick up supplies and Hunter chose the veggies we'd plant: cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage, broccoli and lettuce... plus two types of basil and a mint plant. I had the ideas, yet my carpentry skills were lacking... so on a bright sunny Saturday, Tony and Hunter bonded in the backyard.
Tony decided to turn our pallet fort into the garden box so they had to saw down the sides...
He then lined it with plastic and just for fun filled it up like a spa pool!!! Helena loved the little spa and would've kept it that way forever if not for the focused (albeit tired, feverish) Hunter who wanted to stick to the garden concept.
After the spa pool drained, the boys loaded the box with soil...
And daddy lovingly planted our seedlings... and now - most days Hunter waters it (though I must confess I actually like those quiet moments at dusk watching the leaves grow) and hopefully in another month we'll produce a harvest. Hopefully.
