Happy 6th Birthday Hunter!!!

Oh my goodness - it's almost been a month ago, almost... but Hunter turned 6 on Saturday 26 January - smack dab in the middle of our 10 days of sun in Wellington!!! To celebrate Hunter's love of anything on wheels we hosted a "Wheel-O-Rama" at the Newlands  Skate Park! It was the easiest, most economical, fun birthday party ever!!! We simply invited a bunch of friends to bring their helmets and "wheels" - we fed them morning tea and cake - and everyone seemed happy! Especially the birthday boy.

My parents had sent this fun inflatable birthday cake (which will feature in every birthday picture from now on if I remember to get batteries for it) so it was our "decorations"...
Hunter's birthday is a great time to re-connect with his buddies and their parents so we invited his old kindy friends - Shay, Luke and Thomas!

We pretty much took over the skate park from 10:30-12 on this gorgeous Saturday... the kids like this park because it's not very crowded and has some reasonable challenges for them; I like this park because it is conveniently located less than five minutes from our house! We probably come here a couple times a month depending on the weather so it really was a fitting place to have a party!

And here he is - our 6 year old son! This boy LOVES building things - building with Lego, building with Meccano, building with blocks, building with just about anything he can get his hands on. In fact, the other day the three of us were discussing plans God may have for them - Hunter said he already knows what God has prepared him to do - Build!!! And yes, I believe that he may build or design with his hands but he will definitely be a builder of people and a builder of God's house!

Hunter is very encouraging. He is grateful and affectionate. He is helpful. He is learning to serve other people - he will often bring water for his sister without being asked, and he's started making snacks for me. Hunter has a strong sense of what's right - or what the rules are - and tries his best to stick to them (and remind other people to stick to them). Hunter likes to learn. Hunter LOVES to read. He will read anything he can get his hands on as well. Hunter likes to do things with his daddy, but he always jumps in to protect his mama when Tony and I are playing around. And he is a classic big brother who is generally very patient. Hunter LOVES games - he likes to play Monopoly Jr, Cranium Dice, Scrabble Jr, Jenga... and his latest - cribbage!

This boy is a treasure collector - he converts boxes into treasure chests to hold anything he deems valuable. This boy is an athlete. This boy is an actor. This boy is ours. And we love him very much.

 It was a fun crew!
Our special guest of honour was Hunter's "Life Group" leader Jason! For the past year at church, Jason has led Hunter and the other 5-6 year old boys in a small group time talking about how the Bible is relevant to their lives. Hunter really wanted him to come to his party, so this amazing young man took the bus (maybe even 2) to come out to celebrate! Ruben is another boy in his 'life group' so it was such a treat to have them all together.

So yes, the birthday celebration was a blast!!! And surprisingly, at the skate park there were no real injuries that is except Helena... who climbed a tree, then jumped into Tony's arms causing him to lose his footing, resulting in a tooth through her lip (which now is turning gray - oops!!!). Thankfully it was at the end of the party and it was our kid - not somebody else's.

All in all - it was a very happy birthday!!!
