Another Exciting Saturday...

Last Saturday, 1 December we celebrated an amazing event - the wedding of our dear little sister Grace Zhang to our buddy and her best friend Derek Nieng. Of course, being a Saturday there were other things on... the Johnsonville Christmas Parade and soccer games which of course I thought we'd skip so we could focus on prepping for the Big Day!!! Well, we did skip Helena's Kindy's turn on the truck in the parade, but Tony took the kids to soccer with the assumption - "What could happen?" "We'll be fine!" and "We'll be home in time to get ready!"... and yes, last Saturday - they made it through the soccer games and home with plenty of time to get spruced up and to the church on time for a marvellous day - more on that next post.

And yes, that was last week.... but this week... A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY!!!
As Hunter was warming up on the soccer pitch, about to play the game, he tripped and landed on his shoulder/neck... usually, he bounces back up and carries on... not this time. This time he stayed on the ground. Oh no!

Tony felt around his shoulder since we thought that was going to be a dislocated shoulder. There didn't seem to be any obvious bits out of joint, but Hunter was kinda getting quieter and still unwilling to move, so the soccer manager called the ambulance just to be on the safe side.

They had a real gentle way with him - both Tony and I were totally impressed at the way they spoke to him and the way they treated him cool and kind - so as not to freak him out.

Poor guy didn't have much fun on the ambulance ride... Tony rode with him, while Helena, Caleb and I tried to follow. We didn't stick so hot on their tail, but I did find my way to the Lower Hutt Hospital eventually... just as the doctor had arrived for the initial assessment.

The cool thing about this hospital was this amazing kid's lounge called "The Tree Hutt"... which kept these guys fully occupied. Caleb was a great friend, too... making space for Hunter and helping sit up, scoot back, whatever Hunter needed.

So while we waited, Hunter did get an x-ray and was diagnosed with a broken collarbone! So... nothing to do for it except keep it in a sling - for about 2 weeks, and then keep him aware of it as it heals over the next 4-6 weeks! Just in time for summer holidays!!! YAHOO!!!
Well, we're praying for a speedy and thorough healing...
and may it be his last ambulance ride!!!

  1. Oh no, poor Hunter! A broken collarbone would be so painful! Praying for a quick recovery so he can enjoy his summer holidays!

  2. Oh his face in that picture of them loading him into the stretcher. May be tough keeping him "aware of it" once the sling is off. Praying for smooth healing. xx
