An Annual Zoo Tradition?!?

It seems I've found a way to get us to the zoo at least once a year!!! Each year in about May there is  "Wellington Open Day" and all the big attractions are 'open' for a gold coin donation ($1-$2)... this is my kind of day!!! The only drawback is that they land on Sundays... that's okay... we've got a few hours in between church services so it looks like the zoo is the easiest option while our kids are still a bit 'tired' after walking for only 30 minutes. Perhaps a few years later they'll be ready for Zealandia or Staglands!!!

This year Open Day landed on a rainy, cold Sunday while Tony was in Australia. Since Uncle Mike was teaching a class in between services, we met up with Auntie Anne and the Burrows clan so the kids didn't even notice the rain (or the crowds). Thanks to Danielle for the fun photos from her phone...

The monkey cage was the main attraction - under shelter played a minor part - it was the wild monkeys that kept our attention for almost 20 minutes at a time!!! The kids laughed as the littlest toddler ran around with his blankie and got a big kick out of the toileting habits as well.
Helena found the kangaroo who was hiding from the rain... not sure if there was a joey in there, but the kangaroo was a happy chap!
The giraffes are also a favourite...

It's great that the kids get along so well... just the way 'cousins' ought to! We are truly blessed to have such good friends nearby.
