Lest We Forget

2015 is the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One.
The Pukeahu National War Memorial Park has been redone - it's turned out really cool!
For the lead up to ANZAC Day there was a lot of patriotic events going on around town.
One Sunday night we decided to do something crazy and adventurous so we hit up the light
show and museum after the evening service. The museum has been done by Peter Jackson's
crew and it is just as you'd imagine. For the first two weeks they were giving free tours
so that as many people as possible could get through the museum. It was a good
evening with the kids and thankfully, though thought-provoking, wasn't too graphic
so it was informative and a good introduction to war for our kids.

I thought these were still very practical tips for living.

Hunter was fascinated by the trenches... and I actually hadn't fully understood 'trench warfare' until seeing the models of what they looked like... and thankfully I won't fully understand what it feels like.

There were a lot of sensory experiences set up - like this hole into the tank so we can feel how hot the temperature was inside. It was about 40C and the soldiers had to wear full gear! That would not have been comfortable at all.

 Another perspective setting poster...
